Indian Army Chief Highlights Technological Advancements at National Defence College Lecture

General Upendra Dwivedi, the Chief of Army Staff, presented a keynote lecture at the National Defence College (NDC) in New Delhi on Thursday. He emphasized the swift advancements of the Indian Army in technological transformation and its readiness for future challenges.

Speaking to the 65th NDC course, which comprises 124 officers including 44 from 32 allied foreign countries, General Dwivedi highlighted the crucial impact of advanced technologies, non-kinetic strategies, and the capabilities of soldiers in the realm of modern warfare.

General Dwivedi emphasized the Indian Army's commitment to Atmanirbharta or self-reliance, aligning with the national vision for a “Viksit Bharat” by 2047. This initiative, led by Lt Gen Amardeep Singh Aujla in 2025, places a focus on artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, Internet of Things (IoT), cyber resilience, and defense against emerging threats such as hypersonic weapons.
The Army Chief stated, “Technology integration is no longer optional—it is central to retaining a strategic edge in today’s evolving security environment.”

Since its establishment in 1960, the NDC has been instrumental in cultivating strategic thought leadership across Asia. Its 47-week flagship program offers a venue for senior officers to engage in discussions on security challenges and promote international collaboration.
General Dwivedi’s address coincides with the Army’s observance of its “Decade of Transformation” and the “Year of Tech Absorption,” underscoring a robust dedication to developing future-ready defense capabilities.
