Indian Air Force Mobilizes Mi-17 Helicopters for Himachal Pradesh Forest Fire Response
The Indian Air Force has dispatched its Mil Mi-17 helicopters to aid in extinguishing forest fires near Kasauli in Himachal Pradesh, where the blazes have significantly endangered the area.
Officials from the IAF have confirmed that these helicopters have been authorized for nighttime operations as part of the firefighting efforts, thereby boosting the force's capacity to combat the fire around the clock.
To enhance safety and efficiency during low-visibility conditions and in challenging terrains, the Mi-17 crews will employ Night Vision Goggles (NVGs) during their aerial firefighting missions.
This deployment underscores the Indian Air Force's swift response capability and its ongoing assistance to civil authorities during natural disasters and emergency situations nationwide.
The operation aims to restrict the forest fire's reach, safeguard populated areas, and reduce environmental damage in the impacted region, as stated by officials.
