Indian Air Force Launches GATE Score-Based Recruitment for Technical Branch
The Indian Air Force has unveiled a new recruitment method for its Ground Duty (Technical) Branch that utilizes GATE scores, presenting engineering graduates with an additional avenue to join the force. This initiative will complement the existing recruitment process via the Air Force Common Admission Test.
This newly established system will allow candidates holding valid Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) scores to be directly shortlisted for the Air Force Selection Board (AFSB). This development signifies a major advancement in streamlining the recruitment process for technically qualified individuals aspiring to serve in the Air Force.
The strategy aims to attract highly skilled engineering graduates, thereby strengthening the IAF's technical workforce. As modern warfare increasingly relies on cutting-edge technologies, aerospace systems, and network-centric operations, the Air Force is concentrating on developing a technical team prepared to manage complex operational and maintenance challenges.
The GATE-based entry scheme also provides aspirants with more flexibility. Prospective candidates now have the option of two parallel paths to enter the Ground Duty Technical Branch: by taking the AFCAT examination or being directly shortlisted based on their GATE results.
This initiative is part of the Indian Air Force’s broader effort to modernize its recruitment processes and ensure a merit-based induction of technically proficient officers to address evolving operational demands.
