India Launches Extensive Tri-Service Military Drill 'Trishul' Near Pakistan Border

India has launched a significant military exercise named ‘Trishul’ along its western border with Pakistan, involving the combined efforts of the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force. This operation highlights the joint operational capabilities and strategic readiness of these military branches.

The extensive exercise began on October 30 and is set to continue until November 10. It is taking place across the states of Gujarat and Rajasthan, with the objective of improving interoperability, coordination, and mission readiness among the three services in a combined operational setting.

The initial phase of Exercise Trishul is led by the Indian Navy, followed by the Indian Army in the second phase, and concluding with the Indian Air Force. The Border Security Force and the Indian Coast Guard are also involved, emphasizing India’s integrated approach to national security and coastal protection.

The exercise sees the deployment of more than 20,000 troops, supported by T-90S Bhishma and Arjun Mk-II tanks, attack helicopters, Rafale and Sukhoi-30MKI fighter jets, alongside missile systems, frigates, and destroyers. Activities include joint strike missions, coordinated ground-air assaults, and real-time information sharing across land, sea, and air platforms to emulate comprehensive combat scenarios.

A senior defence official highlighted that Exercise Trishul marks India’s emphasis on joint planning and integrated command structures, crucial for tackling modern security threats. The drills signify India’s transition towards a unified theatre command framework, designed to ensure smooth coordination among its armed forces during wartime and crises.

This exercise takes place amid increased regional activity. Just before Trishul commenced, Pakistan implemented changes to several flight routes in the Karachi and Lahore areas, seen as precautionary measures in light of the extensive Indian military maneuvers.

On October 2, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh issued a stern warning to Pakistan, advising against any provocations in the Sir Creek area. He remarked, “A route to Karachi passes through Sir Creek,” and warned that any hostile action would “be met with a resounding response that will change both history and geography.”

Exercise Trishul underscores India’s capacity to conduct integrated, high-intensity operations across land, air, and sea in the western theater. It confirms India’s dedication to operational preparedness, joint-force collaboration, and credible deterrence in protecting its national interests and territorial integrity.
