IAF Airman Found Dead on Railway Track Near Agra; Police Probe Suicide, Accident Angles

Agra, September 11, 2026 — Police in Agra district are investigating the death of a 35-year-old Indian Air Force airman whose body was found on railway tracks near Achhnera station on Thursday morning, with officials treating both an accidental fall and suicide as possible explanations.

The deceased has been identified as Nainaram, also reported as Naina Ram, a resident of Khinvsar in Rajasthan’s Nagaur district. He had been travelling with his wife, Shobha, and two children on the Jodhpur–Howrah Express en route to Prayagraj when the incident occurred. His identity was confirmed from an identity card and a railway ticket recovered from him.

According to officials, railway staff and villagers alerted the authorities after the body was spotted on the tracks near Achhnera, around 26 kilometres from the Agra district headquarters, at about 8–9 a.m. Police teams from the Government Railway Police and the local police reached the site, drew up a panchnama and took custody of the remains. The body was found in two parts, with the head severed from the torso, and has been sent for post-mortem examination. Indian Air Force officials have also been informed.

GRP Deputy Superintendent of Police Rajesh Dixit said the train had stopped at Achhnera around 9 a.m. and that, according to the police version, the airman got down on the side opposite the main platform, moved towards the track and, as the train started moving again, lay down in its path. “Prima facie it appears to be the case of suicide, but the exact reason for the extreme step is yet to be identified,” Dixit said.

At the same time, investigators are also considering whether he may have fallen from the moving train. A report in the Times of India said this alternative version remains under examination. GRP Superintendent of Police Anil Kumar Jha confirmed that legal proceedings were under way at the Achhnera GRP outpost. Officials have not said that a suicide note was found, and the reason behind the death remains unclear.

The airman’s family members, who were travelling with him, were initially unaware of what had happened. They reportedly assumed he may have moved to another coach after the train departed. Once they were informed, they got down at Tundla station and returned to the scene, where police questioned them. Indian Air Force colleagues also reached the station after learning of his death.

Reports have described Nainaram variously as a sergeant and as a corporal. However, public statements available by Friday morning did not include official confirmation of his exact rank or unit posting.

Police said they are gathering evidence from the spot, examining the circumstances surrounding the train’s halt at Achhnera, and recording statements from family members and railway staff. Both the accidental fall and suicide theories remain open until the post-mortem report and further inquiry provide more clarity.
