General N.S. Raja Subramani Launches Fourth Edition of Tri-Services Future Warfare Course
The fourth edition of the Tri-Services Future Warfare Course began on August 3, 2026, at the Manekshaw Centre in New Delhi. Chief of the Defence Staff, General N.S. Raja Subramani, delivered the keynote address during the opening session. The course is designed to equip military leaders with the necessary skills to navigate the changing landscape of warfare, focusing on new technologies, joint operations, and future security threats.
In his address, General Subramani highlighted the transformation in modern warfare, emphasizing the significant impact of technological advancements on military strategies. He noted that future conflicts would be driven by innovation, adaptability, and the ability to foresee changing threats across various operational domains.
The general stressed the growing importance of artificial intelligence, cyber capabilities, autonomous systems, information warfare, space technologies, and data-driven decision-making. He pointed out that proficiency in these areas would be crucial for maintaining operational superiority and safeguarding national security in a complex strategic environment.
Additionally, General Subramani emphasized the need for enhanced joint collaboration among the three Services. He stated that cooperation between the Armed Forces, industry, academia, research institutions, and government bodies is vital for developing indigenous capabilities and bolstering India's defense readiness for future conflicts.
Organized by the Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff (HQ IDS), the four-week course gathers officers from the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force, along with representatives from government departments, industry, academia, and strategic think tanks. The program aims to foster cross-domain understanding and promote collaborative approaches to emerging military challenges.
Participants will partake in extensive discussions and case studies on a range of topics, including geopolitics, emerging technologies, cognitive warfare, cyber warfare, multi-domain operations, scenario-building, and technology-enabled warfare. The curriculum is crafted to enhance strategic thinking and provide participants with the expertise needed to tackle future operational challenges.
