First Cohort of EME Aviation Agniveers Embark on Training at MCEME Secunderabad

The initial group of 50 Agniveers introduced into the Aviation Stream of the Corps of EME began their training at the Faculty of Aeronautical Engineering (FAE) within the Military College of Electronics & Mechanical Engineering (MCEME) in Secunderabad on March 16, 2026.

These Agniveers embarked on their 21-week Initial Technical Training (ITT) after having completed 10 weeks of Basic Military Training (BMT) at 1 EME Centre, Secunderabad.

Focus on Aviation Technical Excellence

In the opening address, the Dean of FAE MCEME highlighted the vital role of Aviation Technicians in the Corps of EME. They are essential in maintaining the airworthiness and mission readiness of the Indian Army's helicopter fleet during both peace and operational times.

Specialised Training on Army Aviation Platforms

The Agniveers have commenced their specialised training on helicopters such as the Cheetah, Chetak, and Cheetal, which are operated by the Army Aviation Corps. This demanding programme aims to provide them with advanced technical skills necessary for the maintenance and repair of these aviation platforms.

Strengthening Army Aviation Ecosystem

After completing their training, the Agniveers will be designated as Aviation Technician (Airframe) and Aviation Technician (Aeroengine).

This initiative represents a significant advancement in reinforcing the repair and maintenance ecosystem within Army Aviation, thereby enhancing operational readiness and supporting the Indian Army's expanding aviation capabilities.
