Father Retires After 37 Years in the Air Force, Sons Continue His Legacy in Army and Navy

In a proud and inspiring moment for the Armed Forces fraternity, Master Warrant Officer Rawal of the Indian Air Force is set to retire on 31 May after completing 37 glorious years of service to the nation. His journey, which began in 1988, stands as a shining example of discipline, dedication, sacrifice and lifelong commitment to the motherland.

Joining the Indian Air Force as a young man filled with patriotism and purpose, MWO Rawal devoted nearly four decades of his life to the service of the nation. Through changing times, evolving military technology, demanding responsibilities and countless challenges, he remained committed to the values that define every air warrior: honour, professionalism, courage and duty before self.

For 37 years, he wore the blue uniform with pride. His service was not merely a profession, but a way of life built around loyalty to the country and devotion to the Indian Air Force. Every posting, every responsibility and every day in uniform added to a journey that reflects the silent strength of thousands of air warriors who keep the nation’s skies secure.

However, what makes MWO Rawal’s story even more special is that his legacy of service does not end with his retirement. Inspired by their father’s life in uniform, his two sons have also chosen the path of national service. One son is serving in the Indian Army, while the other is serving in the Indian Navy, proudly carrying forward the family’s contribution to the defence of the nation.

With the father serving the skies, one son guarding the land and another safeguarding the seas, the Rawal family represents a rare and remarkable example of tri-services dedication within a single family. Their story beautifully reflects the spirit of the Indian Armed Forces, where service to the nation becomes not just an individual calling, but a family tradition.

For MWO Rawal, retirement on 31 May will mark the conclusion of an extraordinary chapter, but not the end of his connection with the uniform. The values he lived by for 37 years continue through his sons, who now carry the same sense of duty, discipline and patriotism in the Army and Navy.

His journey is a reminder that the strength of the Armed Forces is not built only on weapons, ranks or uniforms, but also on families who dedicate generations to the service of India. Behind every soldier, sailor and air warrior stands a story of sacrifice, and the Rawal family’s story is one such example of pride, honour and inspiration.

As Master Warrant Officer Rawal prepares to bid farewell to active service, he leaves behind not only a distinguished career in the Indian Air Force but also a living legacy in the Armed Forces. His life in uniform will continue to inspire young Indians who dream of serving the nation, while his sons ensure that the flame of patriotism remains alive across land, sea and sky.
