Defence Ministry Completes ₹1,981.90 Crore Emergency Procurement for Enhanced Army Counter-Terrorism Readiness

The Ministry of Defence has wrapped up thirteen emergency procurement agreements totaling ₹1,981.90 crore to boost the Indian Army's counter-terrorism readiness. These contracts were carried out under the expedited Emergency Procurement mechanism, aiming to enhance operational capabilities in key counter-terrorism scenarios swiftly.
With an approved budget of ₹2,000 crore, the procurements focused on acquiring advanced technologies to improve situational awareness, mobility, lethality, and troop protection. All the equipment was sourced domestically, supporting the government's Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
The newly acquired equipment includes Integrated Drone Detection and Interdiction Systems (IDDIS), Low Level Lightweight Radars (LLLR), Very Short Range Air Defence Systems (VSHORADS), various types of drones and Remotely Piloted Aerial Vehicles (RPAVs), Loitering Munitions with Vertical Take-Off and Landing (VTOL) capabilities, Bullet Proof Jackets (BPJs), Ballistic Helmets, Quick Reaction Fighting Vehicles (QRFVs), and night sights for rifles.
The Ministry highlighted that the swift execution of these contracts underscores a committed effort to address immediate capability gaps and fulfill operational demands in the field. Officials noted these procurements as a crucial modernization effort, designed to enable more rapid, secure, and effective responses in counter-terror operations across demanding terrains.
By opting for the Emergency Procurement route, the Defence Ministry ensured the swift delivery and integration of high-priority systems, strengthening the Indian Army’s readiness against emerging security challenges.
