Commodore Dhiraj Khanna Assumes Command of INS Satavahana in Visakhapatnam

At a ceremonial event held at INS Satavahana, located in Visakhapatnam, Commodore Dhiraj Khanna officially took over command from Commodore Rajat Nagpal. INS Satavahana is recognized as the Indian Navy's principal establishment for submarine training, playing a significant role in enhancing the nation's undersea warfare capabilities.

The ceremony was marked by a disciplined parade of naval personnel and an exchange of insignia, symbolizing the continuity and professionalism within the Navy’s submarine division. Commodore Khanna, who graduated from the National Defence Academy, brings extensive experience in submarine operations, training, and administration to his new role.

Since its inception on December 21, 1974, INS Satavahana has evolved into a world-class training facility. It hosts the Submarine School, the Escape Training School, and the School of Advanced Undersea Warfare, established in 2006 to prepare personnel for advanced platforms like the Arihant-class nuclear submarines. A significant enhancement occurred in September 2024 with the inauguration of the Kalvari Submarine Escape Training Facility. This modern center is equipped with a five-meter vertical escape tower, offering realistic underwater escape simulations to improve crew survival skills.

Under the leadership of Commodore Dhiraj Khanna, INS Satavahana is poised to continue its tradition of training highly skilled submariners, thereby contributing to India's expanding maritime capabilities.
