Colonel Vikrant Panwar Takes Charge of 13 Task Force for Strategic Infrastructure in Ladakh

On August 7, 2026, Colonel Vikrant Panwar took over the leadership of the 13 Task Force under Project Yojak, succeeding Colonel Yogendra Singh Tomar. This transition heralds a new phase for one of the Border Roads Organisation's (BRO) prominent units, which focuses on building strategic infrastructure in Ladakh's high-altitude areas.

The 13 Task Force is tasked with the crucial job of constructing and maintaining the Nimmu–Padam–Darcha (N-P-D) Road. This key infrastructure initiative is designed to bolster connectivity in the Zanskar Valley and improve military logistics and operational readiness in the region.

Considered one of India's pivotal road projects in the western Himalayas, the Nimmu–Padam–Darcha Road is expected to provide an alternate, all-weather route linking Ladakh with the rest of India. Upon completion, it aims to decrease reliance on current supply pathways and vastly improve the transportation of troops, equipment, and vital supplies to forward areas.

This project also significantly impacts the socio-economic growth of the Zanskar Valley by enhancing year-round connectivity for remote communities. It fosters trade, tourism, healthcare access, and emergency response capabilities within one of India's most challenging geographical areas.

During the change of command ceremony, Colonel Vikrant Panwar reiterated his dedication to advancing the BRO's mission of providing high-quality infrastructure under challenging operational conditions. He stressed the need for timely project execution, engineering excellence, and ongoing efforts to maintain seamless connectivity in strategically important regions.

Embracing the BRO's motto, "श्रमेण सर्वं साध्यम्" (Shramena Sarvam Sadhyam), which translates to "Everything is achievable through hard work," Colonel Panwar pledged to uphold the organization's legacy of overcoming extreme terrain and climatic adversities with commitment, professionalism, and innovation.

The outgoing commander, Colonel Yogendra Singh Tomar, transferred responsibilities after leading significant stages of the Task Force’s infrastructure development work. His tenure saw substantial contributions to strategic road construction and maintenance, aligning with national security goals and regional development.

The Border Roads Organisation remains pivotal in developing strategic road networks, bridges, and tunnels across India’s border areas, facilitating faster military mobilization and improved connectivity for civilian communities. The Nimmu–Padam–Darcha Road is a crucial element of India's strategy to enhance border infrastructure, ensuring consistent access to remote frontier regions.
