CDS Launches 'VAYU' Portal for Modernizing Indian Defense Logistics

In a significant advancement for defense modernization and technological independence, Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan inaugurated the 'VAYU' Portal at the Central Aviation Support Depot (CASD) today. This sophisticated digital platform, developed in collaboration between the Indian Army and Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), is poised to transform military logistics by enabling secure, real-time information exchange.

The 'VAYU' Portal, which stands for Virtual Automation towards Yielding Unification, seeks to optimize repair processes, with HAL projecting a potential 30% reduction in turnaround time. This initiative underscores India's commitment to its Atmanirbharta and MakeInIndia missions, marking a pivotal shift from dependence on foreign defense technologies.

Inspired by systems such as the U.S. Joint All-Domain Command and Control (JADC2), the portal incorporates an Inter-Organizational Information Sharing (IOIS) system for enhanced coordination among stakeholders. A study by the RAND Corporation praised similar frameworks for improving operational efficiency and resilience, highlighting the portal's potential as a model for international defense collaboration.

The launch, part of the 'Yearof Defence Reforms' initiative, featured the presentation of a commemorative plaque to General Chauhan and the exchange of documents between military and civilian leaders. A group photograph was taken to commemorate the occasion, symbolizing the collective effort towards achieving advanced defense capabilities.

With the 'VAYU' Portal now in operation, India moves closer to establishing a strong, self-reliant, and globally competitive defense sector.
