CDS General Anil Chauhan Enhances Operational Readiness at Car Nicobar with New Runway and Fuel Facilities
On January 2, Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan visited the Air Force Station in Car Nicobar as part of a two-day itinerary to the Andaman and Nicobar Command (ANC). This visit underscores India's increasing emphasis on strategic preparedness within the Indian Ocean Region (IOR).
Upon arrival, General Chauhan was welcomed by Vice Admiral Ajay Kochhar, the Commander-in-Chief of the Andaman and Nicobar Command. During his visit, he inaugurated enhanced runway facilities and a new aviation fuel storage unit at Car Nicobar.

The recently unveiled infrastructure is poised to significantly bolster fighter jet operations, air sustainment capabilities, and endurance, thereby extending India's strategic reach and quick response ability throughout the Indian Ocean Region.
According to defense officials, the improved runway and fuel facilities will support the continuous deployment of frontline fighter jets and transport platforms. This enhancement will increase operational flexibility and mission readiness in a geopolitically vital maritime zone.

During his visit, General Chauhan engaged with the service personnel at Air Force Station Car Nicobar, lauding their professionalism, dedication, and commitment to serving in a remote and challenging environment. He emphasized their crucial role in protecting India's maritime interests and maintaining constant vigilance in the eastern Indian Ocean.

The visit and inauguration underscore India's ongoing commitment to infrastructure development, joint operations, and force projection within the tri-services Andaman and Nicobar Command. These enhancements reinforce the ANC's position as a forward-operating strategic hub and an essential component of India's security framework in the Indo-Pacific.
General Chauhan's visit reaffirmed the Armed Forces' dedication to maintaining high levels of operational readiness, integrated theatre capabilities, and strategic deterrence throughout the Indian Ocean Region.
