Brigadier SS Pundir Reviews NCC Training, Infrastructure at Jadavpur University

Brigadier SS Pundir, Group Commander of NCC Group Headquarters Kolkata ‘B’ under the NCC Directorate West Bengal and Sikkim, visited the 2 West Bengal Air Squadron NCC and 4 West Bengal Technical Squadron NCC at Jadavpur University on November 3, 2026, to review infrastructure development, institutional preparedness and training-related requirements.

The visit centred on assessing the condition of the office premises and training facilities used by the two NCC units. Brig Pundir took stock of ongoing infrastructure development work intended to improve operational efficiency and provide cadets with a better training environment.

During the inspection, he examined the existing facilities and evaluated whether they were adequate for the training needs of NCC cadets. The review placed emphasis on the role of modern and well-maintained infrastructure in supporting effective training, smooth administration and overall institutional readiness.

The Group Commander also met Permanent Instructional (PI) staff and civilian personnel attached to the two squadrons. In these interactions, he reviewed different aspects of preparedness and offered guidance on improving administrative coordination, training effectiveness and organisational efficiency.

Brig Pundir stressed that infrastructure is central to both military-oriented training and administrative excellence. He underlined the need to maintain high standards in training facilities and ensure that available resources are used efficiently for the development of cadets.

Another major point of discussion was personal physical fitness. The senior officer highlighted the importance of maintaining strong fitness standards, describing physical readiness as an essential element of discipline, leadership and professional effectiveness.

He said that when physical fitness is combined with strong institutional infrastructure and efficient administrative practices, it creates an environment that supports learning, leadership development and character building.

The visit also served to reinforce the importance of discipline, dedication and continuous improvement across NCC establishments. These values, the interaction suggested, remain central to the functioning of the organisation and to the standards expected of its personnel and cadets.

The National Cadet Corps plays an important role in developing leadership qualities, character, discipline and a spirit of national service among young students. Through its Army, Navy and Air Force wings, the organisation offers structured training that encourages teamwork, physical fitness, self-confidence and a sense of responsibility.

The 2 West Bengal Air Squadron and 4 West Bengal Technical Squadron at Jadavpur University support these objectives by providing specialised training opportunities and contributing to the overall development of cadets.

Brig Pundir’s inspection reflected the continuing efforts of the NCC Directorate West Bengal and Sikkim to strengthen institutional capabilities through better infrastructure, improved training facilities and effective administrative supervision.

The engagement with instructional and civilian staff also offered an opportunity to reinforce organisational priorities and encourage personnel to maintain high standards of professionalism and commitment.

By focusing on infrastructure development, institutional readiness and physical fitness, the visit aligned with the NCC’s broader objective of preparing disciplined, confident and responsible young citizens capable of contributing positively to society and the nation.

The visit also reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to strengthening training infrastructure, promoting physical fitness and fostering a culture of excellence in line with its motto, “Unity and Discipline.”
