Army Training Command to Modernize with 33 Technologies by 2030, Announces Lt Gen Devendra Sharma

Lieutenant General Devendra Sharma has announced that the Army Training Command (ARTRAC) intends to incorporate 33 specialized technologies by 2030. This initiative is part of a broader effort to advance the training capabilities of the Indian Army and better prepare for future combat scenarios. The announcement was made at the ARTRAC Investiture Ceremony 2025 in Shimla.
Lt Gen Sharma underscored the increasing importance of advanced technologies and drones in contemporary warfare. To support this push, 15 major training institutions are being transformed into Centres of Expertise. In the training year 2024–25, the command successfully trained around 18,000 personnel in 22 specialized technologies. Plans are in place to train another 12,000 troops on 21 technologies in the upcoming 2025–26 cycle.
ARTRAC has allocated ₹390 crore over five years for research and development, improvements in infrastructure, and curriculum updates. This investment is aimed at incorporating the latest systems into operational strategies, focusing on specialized innovations with strategic applications in areas such as artificial intelligence, robotics, unmanned systems, and cybersecurity.
The increasing role of women within the Indian Army was also highlighted by Lt Gen Sharma, who noted that over 1,800 women are now serving in various ranks, including command positions.
During the 2023–24 training year, three Category 'A' establishments and two affiliated units received the prestigious GOC-in-C Army Training Command Unit Citation for their exceptional contributions. Institutions such as the Military College of Material Management in Jabalpur, the Counter Insurgency Jungle Warfare School in Variengate, and the Military College of Electronics and Mechanical Engineering in Secunderabad were honored with Financial Excellence Awards for their exemplary financial management practices.
The Armoured Corps Centre & School in Ahilyanagar and the MCMM in Jabalpur were also recognized with e-Office Excellence Awards, commending their efforts in promoting digital workflows and minimizing the use of paper documentation.
