Alka Nangia Arora Takes Office as New Controller General of Defence Accounts
On 1 August 2026, Smt. Alka Nangia Arora, a senior officer from the 1991 batch of the Indian Defence Accounts Service (IDAS), took charge as the Controller General of Defence Accounts (CGDA). She now spearheads the Department of Defence Accounts, which is tasked with overseeing the financial and accounting operations within the Ministry of Defence.
Smt. Arora, a seasoned civil servant, brings with her over 30 years of expertise in public finance and administration. Her career has included significant leadership roles within the Ministry of Defence, as well as stints in the Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), and the Ministry of Textiles. Her contributions have been instrumental in policy development, financial management, and governance reforms.
Her tenure with the Indian Defence Accounts Service has seen her enhance financial accountability, refine defence procurement processes, and support efforts to boost efficiency in India’s defence financial systems. Her comprehensive experience covers budgeting, expenditure management, audits, financial advisory roles, and institutional reforms across various government sectors.
As the head of the Department of Defence Accounts, Smt. Arora will oversee the provision of financial advice, maintenance of defence accounts, and the processing of payments and pensions for both active and retired defence personnel. Her responsibilities also include conducting internal audits and ensuring the financial oversight of defence expenditures.
