Air Vice Marshal Manu Midha Discusses Space Warfare and Satellite Intelligence at MILIT Pune Lecture
Air Vice Marshal Manu Midha, the Director General of the Defence Space Agency (DSA), recently delivered a lecture at the Military Institute of Technology (MILIT) in Pune. His presentation, titled "Space Warfare & Satellite Intelligence: Present Capabilities, Challenges & Way Ahead," underscored the growing significance of space in modern military operations.
The lecture shed light on the critical role that space-based technologies and satellite capabilities play in bolstering national security and enhancing military effectiveness. Addressing the attendees, Air Vice Marshal Midha highlighted that space has become an essential operational domain, alongside land, sea, air, and cyber, shaping the nature of future warfare.
In his speech, he elaborated on the contributions of satellite-based systems to enhanced situational awareness, intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance, secure communications, navigation, and precision targeting. He explained that these technologies enable military commanders to make quicker, informed, and more effective decisions across various operational theatres.
The Director General also addressed the challenges posed by the increasing militarisation of space. He discussed the necessity of safeguarding critical space assets, countering emerging threats, and developing resilient infrastructure to support military functions.
Air Vice Marshal Midha stressed the importance of adopting indigenous technologies and fostering innovation for strengthening India's space security framework. He highlighted that continuous investment in advanced satellite systems, space surveillance, and new technologies is crucial for maintaining operational readiness in future conflicts.
