Air Marshal KAA Sanjeeb Assumes Charge as IAF Air Officer-in-Charge Maintenance

Air Marshal KAA Sanjeeb has taken over as Air Officer-in-Charge Maintenance (AOM) of the Indian Air Force, effective 01 September 2026, bringing a new senior technical leader into one of the service’s key appointments responsible for maintenance and support functions.

The appointment places him in charge of the Indian Air Force’s maintenance and technical support framework, a role central to keeping aircraft serviceable and operationally ready. As AOM, he will oversee aircraft serviceability, engineering support, maintenance planning and the sustainment of operational capability across the force.

Air Marshal Sanjeeb was commissioned into the Aeronautical Engineer (Mechanical) branch of the Indian Air Force in September 1988. Over the course of his career, he has held a range of important field and staff appointments, building experience in aircraft maintenance, engineering management and technical administration.

Before being appointed Air Officer-in-Charge Maintenance, he was serving as Director General (Aircraft) at Air Headquarters. His background in aircraft-related duties is expected to support the IAF’s continuing emphasis on fleet availability, maintenance efficiency and technical preparedness.

Air Marshal Sanjeeb succeeds Air Marshal Sanjiv Ghuratia, who superannuated on 31 August 2026 after nearly four decades of distinguished service in the Indian Air Force. Air Marshal Ghuratia had held the appointment of Air Officer-in-Charge Maintenance since September 2025.

The change comes as the Indian Air Force continues to focus on maintaining high fleet availability while also integrating new-generation platforms and technologies. In that environment, the maintenance branch remains critical to aircraft availability, indigenous maintenance capability, modernisation and the effective support of advanced systems.

Air Marshal KAA Sanjeeb’s assumption of charge is expected to carry forward the service’s efforts to strengthen maintenance infrastructure, technical capability and overall operational preparedness.
