Air India Flight from Hong Kong Experiences APU Fire Upon Landing at Delhi Airport

An Air India flight from Hong Kong encountered a fire in its auxiliary power unit (APU) shortly after arriving at Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi on Tuesday. The fire incident occurred as passengers were beginning to disembark from Flight AI 315.
According to Air India, the APU fire was automatically extinguished by the system, functioning as intended. "Flight AI 315, operating from Hong Kong to Delhi on 22 July 2025, experienced an auxiliary power unit (APU) fire shortly after it had landed and parked at the gate. The incident occurred while passengers had begun disembarking, and the APU was automatically shut down as per system design," stated the airline.
Despite the aircraft sustaining some damage, all passengers and crew members were safely evacuated. The airline confirmed that the plane has been grounded, and the relevant authorities have been informed.
Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) has commenced an investigation into the incident.
This event follows two other technical issues reported by Air India the previous day. A Kolkata-bound flight had to abort takeoff from Delhi due to a technical issue. In another case, flight AI2744 from Kochi to Mumbai veered off the runway while landing in heavy rain. The aircraft safely taxied to the gate afterward and was grounded for inspections.
In a separate and unrelated incident, an IndiGo flight from Goa to Indore with 140 passengers onboard made an emergency landing at Indore airport because of a technical problem with the landing gear. The aircraft landed safely and is currently undergoing required checks.
