Air India Flight AI-171 Black Boxes Secured; Investigation Progresses on Crash原因

The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) has announced the successful retrieval and secure transfer of the black boxes from Air India Flight AI-171, marking a pivotal step in the ongoing crash investigation.
Following the guidelines set out in the Aircraft (Investigation of Accidents and Incidents) Rules, 2017, and ICAO Annex 13, a multidisciplinary team was established on June 13, 2025. Led by the Director General of AAIB, the team includes experts in aviation medicine and air traffic control, along with representatives from the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), given that the aircraft was engineered and built in the United States.
The Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR) was located on a building rooftop at the crash site on June 13, while the Flight Data Recorder (FDR) was found amidst the wreckage on June 16. Both devices were kept securely in Ahmedabad under constant police supervision and CCTV monitoring until they were transported to Delhi by the Indian Air Force on June 24.
The CVR was delivered to AAIB’s laboratory in Delhi at 2:00 PM, with the FDR arriving later at 5:15 PM the same day. Technical teams from both AAIB and NTSB immediately initiated the data extraction process, successfully retrieving the Crash Protection Module and downloading the CVR data on June 25.
The analysis of the black box data is now in progress, aiming to piece together the events leading up to the crash. The investigation's goal is to pinpoint any factors that contributed to the incident to ensure accountability and enhance aviation safety protocols.
Officials highlighted that all procedures have been conducted in full compliance with Indian legislation and international agreements, with the investigation proceeding in a timely and transparent manner.
