Air India Express Flight to Ranchi Returns to Delhi Due to Suspected Technical Problem

An Air India Express flight bound for Ranchi was compelled to return to Delhi shortly after departure on Monday evening due to a suspected technical issue, as confirmed by the airline.

The aircraft, a Boeing 737 MAX 8, was scheduled to arrive at Ranchi's Birsa Munda Airport at 6:20 PM. However, the crew identified a potential technical irregularity soon after takeoff and opted to return to Indira Gandhi International Airport as a precautionary action.

Following a detailed inspection on the ground, the aircraft was deemed safe and resumed its scheduled operations. “One of our flights returned to Delhi after takeoff due to a suspected technical issue. Post inspections and clearance, the aircraft continued scheduled operations,” stated an Air India Express spokesperson.

Earlier that day, a separate incident involving Air India flight AI315 from Hong Kong to New Delhi occurred. This Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner also returned to its point of origin due to a technical concern. The aircraft safely landed at Hong Kong International Airport at approximately 1:15 p.m. local time, after taking off at 12:20 p.m. and climbing to an altitude of 22,000 feet before starting its descent.

These incidents occurred following a tragic accident last week involving another Air India flight. A Boeing aircraft crashed shortly after departing Ahmedabad for London, resulting in the deaths of 241 of the 242 passengers onboard.

These recent events present additional challenges for Air India, which is currently undertaking a fleet modernization program, and for Boeing, which continues to face global scrutiny regarding safety and reliability issues.
