Agniveer Prayas Gurung Killed in Indian Army Vehicle Crash in Bagdogra

A fatal accident involving a vehicle from the Indian Army took place on Junglee Baba Mandir Road in Bagdogra, claiming the life of 20-year-old Agniveer Prayas Gurung and injuring several others. The incident happened in a densely forested area, hampering immediate rescue and communication efforts.

Officials reported that the army vehicle was traveling between units when the driver allegedly lost control, causing the vehicle to crash into a roadside tree. Seated at the rear, Agniveer Prayas Gurung suffered severe injuries. A nearby army convoy responded quickly, transporting the wounded to the 158 Base Hospital in Bengdubi. Despite receiving urgent medical care, Gurung did not survive.

Gurung was from Lower Lama Gaon in Bijanbari’s Relling Gram Panchayat. His body is being transported to his ancestral home today, with the Indian Army confirming that his funeral will be conducted with full military honors on Saturday.

The accident also injured the vehicle’s driver, co-driver, and several soldiers, all of whom are currently receiving medical treatment. Officials from the Bagdogra Forest Department, Traffic Police, local police, and Army units quickly arrived at the scene to secure the area and initiate a thorough investigation into the cause of the accident.

The Army is working alongside civil authorities to ascertain the precise cause of the vehicle's loss of control, and is conducting safety assessments of the route. The tragedy has cast a pall over the region, as tributes flow in for the young Agniveer whose life was tragically cut short while on duty.
