After Seven Years of Perseverance, Officer Cadet Mohit Arora Joins Indian Army Training at OTA Gaya

Officer Cadet Mohit Arora of Phagwara in Punjab’s Kapurthala district has finally realised a dream he pursued for seven years: joining the Indian Army. Inspired by his father, an ex-serviceman of the Army Postal Service, Mohit chose the military over multiple prestigious academic and professional opportunities, and is now training at the Officers Training Academy, Gaya.

His decision was shaped early in life by the sight of his father in Olive Green. That exposure to military service, combined with the example set at home, gave Mohit a clear ambition that stayed with him through school, university and competitive examinations. For him, the Army was never just one option among many; it was the goal he wanted to reach, even when other paths appeared more straightforward or lucrative.

Mohit’s educational record shows how many doors were open to him. He completed Class X at Army Public School, Kolkata, and Class XII at Army Public School, Jalandhar Cantonment. He later pursued a Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree in Physics from Lovely Professional University, where he graduated with distinction. His academic background gave him a strong foundation and reflected the disciplined environment in which he grew up.

His performance in the Common Admission Test added another layer to his profile. Mohit secured the 93rd percentile in CAT 2022 and improved further to the 97th percentile in CAT 2023. Those scores earned him admission offers from three Indian Institutes of Management: Amritsar, Nagpur and Jammu. For many candidates, such offers would have represented the natural next step toward a management career and a stable corporate future.

Mohit, however, did not allow those opportunities to alter the course he had set for himself. Despite the appeal of a premier management education, he remained committed to the Armed Forces and continued working towards entry into the Army. His journey was not quick or easy; it stretched across seven years and demanded patience, sustained effort and the willingness to stay focused despite repeated alternatives.

That persistence has now paid off. Mohit secured All India Rank 212, which earned him a place in the Indian Army. The result marks the culmination of years of preparation and a personal commitment that began in childhood and remained intact through adolescence, higher education and competitive examinations.

What makes his story stand out is not only the final outcome, but the range of choices he had along the way. A distinction in Physics, strong CAT scores and IIM admission offers placed him in a position to pursue a high-profile academic or corporate trajectory. Instead, he chose the path of military service, reflecting a clear sense of purpose rather than a search for prestige alone.

His father’s influence remained central throughout the journey. As an ex-serviceman of the Army Postal Service, he was both a role model and the first connection Mohit had to the world of the Armed Forces. The Olive Green uniform that he watched from childhood eventually became the uniform he aspired to wear himself.

Mohit’s next phase is at the Officers Training Academy, Gaya, where he will undergo the demanding process of becoming an Army officer. The academy will require him to build on the qualities that brought him this far—discipline, resilience, teamwork and leadership—while adapting to the physical and mental rigours of military training.

His journey also offers a reminder that success does not always follow the most obvious or immediate route. Academic achievement and competitive exam scores may open many possibilities, but staying committed to a long-held ambition can require a different kind of resolve. In Mohit Arora’s case, that resolve carried him past several attractive alternatives and back to the goal that had guided him from the start.

From Phagwara to Kolkata and Jalandhar Cantonment, from a Physics degree at Lovely Professional University to high CAT percentiles and IIM offers, Mohit’s path has been marked by achievement at every stage. Yet the defining thread through all of it has remained unchanged: the desire to serve the nation in uniform.
