65th National Defence College Delegates Visit India's Advanced Naval Base at Karwar

Karwar, October 30, 2025 — On October 30, 2025, the 65th National Defence College (NDC) Course, consisting of 130 delegates, visited the Naval Base Karwar, a key facility in India's naval framework. The delegation was composed of 45 officers from the Indian Army, 13 from the Indian Air Force, 7 from the Indian Navy, 20 from the Indian Civil Services, and 45 officers from Friendly Foreign Countries (FFCs), demonstrating the NDC’s aim to enhance strategic insights and foster international defense collaboration.

Arriving at Karwar on vessels from the Western Fleet, the visiting officers were provided a glimpse of India’s maritime prowess. This visit was significant, showcasing a unified effort from different services and countries at one of the Indian Navy’s pivotal bases.

The visitors were given a comprehensive tour of the advanced infrastructure developed under Project Seabird, which is India’s largest naval base project. They received briefings on the strategic and operational significance of Karwar, highlighting its central role in India’s naval operations along the western coast. The discussions included maritime security, logistics, berthing facilities, and the base's future expansion potential.

Rear Admiral Vikram Menon, VSM, Flag Officer Commanding, Karnataka Naval Area, hosted the delegation. He engaged with the visitors, discussing the base's contribution to India’s maritime strength and strategic outreach. Topics of discussion included inter-service cooperation, coastal security frameworks, and the Navy’s involvement in India’s Indo-Pacific ambitions.

This visit afforded NDC members, both from India and abroad, a deeper understanding of the operational principles of the Indian Navy, its infrastructure advancements, and its vital role in maintaining regional security and maritime supremacy.

The engagement at Naval Base Karwar highlighted the Navy’s ongoing efforts to support joint operations, strategic comprehension, and global alliances within a shifting security landscape.
