Indian Army Condemns Assault on Soldier at Meerut Toll Plaza, Calls for Action

The Indian Army has expressed strong condemnation following an attack on a serving soldier at Bhuni Toll Plaza in Meerut on August 17, calling for stringent action against those responsible.

Officials reported that the incident took place at approximately 8:00 PM when the soldier, who is stationed in Srinagar, was returning from leave. The altercation with toll plaza employees allegedly escalated into a physical assault.

In an official statement, the Army declared: “Indian Army strongly condemns such incident against a serving soldier. Highest authorities of #UttarPradesh Police have been approached to bring the guilty to books.”

The Army confirmed that a First Information Report (FIR) has been filed under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), citing charges of attempt to murder, unlawful assembly, and robbery. Police have made six arrests in connection to the case.

The Army also communicated a formal protest to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), seeking departmental action against the toll employees involved and calling for preventive measures against future incidents.

Emphasizing its commitment to justice, the Army stated it would “pursue the case to its logical conclusion” to ensure accountability for the assault on the soldier.

The incident has ignited significant outrage, with local communities and veterans’ groups demanding severe penalties for those involved.
